About Me

“Thoughts, many thoughts, random thoughts, thoughts about what I’ve done, where I’ve been – thoughts occupy my mind and translate into letters upon letters, words upon words, sometimes saying nothing, sometimes saying it all.”  Me

Hello and welcome to my blog, Words on a Limb.  For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved writing; loved the power of words, the way they can create mood, evoke emotion and transform thinking.  Much the same is my love for art; the way a single stroke can dance playfully on a page or wither in sadness, depending on its tilt, its size, its colour.  The combination of the two is where Words On A Limb emerge, where paint splatters onto neatly written words, giving them a certain edge, if you will.

When I’m not writing, I’m dedicated to my full-time teaching career (teaching Kindergarten this year) and being a mom to my beautiful children (do the math – that leaves me with…hmmm…13 minutes to write every night).  I have many goals, some immediate (learning to blog #html_is_hell!) and some longer term (getting some of my creations published).  All of these are coming along just fine, I’m happy to say.

Words On A Limb is not a solo pursuit.  Picture it as a café, where you meet like-minded friends, sometimes you bring a notebook with some thoughts you had, other times you just come to listen with an open mind.  Please feel free to comment, send in your suggestions and even share your own words on a limb.

Thank you for your time,

Lora

  1. It’s true. You woke up and found yourself in Uncle Bardie Country. Now that you have followed Uncle Bardie, you may find yourself at that fork in the road that you have to take. With Uncle Bardie for a guide, you can be comforted that you may stub your toe on a pun, find you can’t resist laughing at those things you never thought funny, and wake up to wonder what Uncle Bardie is up to. It’s okay. That itch can be scratched. Simply tune in to the next Post, It could very well be a doozy or not. Either way it will be coming from the whacky mind of Uncle Bardie. So thanks for following Uncle Bardie’s Stories & Such. It beats bananas any day. Unless…but that’s a whole ‘nother thang. And one last thing. Have a great day (or night, depending on your perspective).

  2. HI Lora. I have just read your book Words and wanted to tell you how amazing it is. I too, am a lover of words and this book spoke to me on so many different levels. It truly is an amazing book. I am a part time teacher in Vancouver but also write professional books for teachers about reading and writing instruction. When I am not teaching, I give a lot of workshops where I talk about best practice in reading and writing with a big emphasis on children’s literature. I blog about books and post books on my facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/readingpowergear/ Just wanted you to know that I posted our book today and will be singing praises for it at my workshops this fall! Thank you for writing such a rich, thought-provoking. transforming book!

    • Adrienne, thank you so very much for your kindness. I am truly humbled. WORDS stemmed from many years of teaching and working with children, truly a labour of love. Knowing that my book is used to enrich students’ lives is the best reward I can ever ask for – thank you for that! I am looking forward to visiting your sites and learning more about you and your work. Many thanks to you, Adrienne!
